chondroitin sulfate is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (gag) composed of a chain of alternating sugars (nacetyl galactosamine and glucuronic acid). since the molecule of chondroitin sulfate has multiple negative charges at physiological ph, a cation is present in salts of chondroitin sulfate. commercial preparations of chondroitin sulfate
